IE9 is the only browser that uses hardware-accelerated HTML5. This capability spans all graphics, text, audio and video products and sites. IE9 was the first browser to introduce innovations, like hardware acceleration, which was built on HTML5 support. This lets it move fast and integrate Web experiences with multiple software platforms. So the first platform preview of IE 10 builds on the IE9 innovations, but it anticipates additional standards, such as CSS3 Gradients on background images and CSS3 Flexible Box Layout. These standards will find their way into IE10.

Internet Explorer 10 Platform Preview allows you to test the technology in Microsoft's upcoming browser.

This preview only works in Windows 7, and is essentially just a window that will display web pages. To navigate to a page, press Ctrl + O and enter the URL you want. It's hardly user friendly, but it's not supposed to be. Internet Explorer 10 Platform Preview is meant for web developers and anyone interested in testing and debugging the technology.

We all use an operating system almost daily for different purposes. If you don’t know what an operating system is, it will be interesting information for you that you can see this article only because of an operating system installed on your PC. So its something a PC can’t live without. And now a day a PC is something we can’t live without. An operating system is software, which acts as a bridge between user and computer. Windows XP professional:

Quite possibly it is the OS installed on your PC right now. The name XP comes from the word “eXPerience”. Developed by Microsoft, for home and business use, in 2001, XP still stands out as the most famous and most commonly used OS.

Ubuntu:

Developed by Linux, in 2004, it gets its name form South African philosophy Ubuntu, which means Humanity towards others. It is open source software, primarily designed for desktop but now the net book and server editions are also available. Ubuntu gets high scores for being user friendly.

Macintosh OS X:

Apple Inc develops Mac OS X, based on UNIX. It was first released in 2001. It is close source software with some open source components. One of its best features is Aqua GUI, a graphical user interface with water like elements. The “X” in the name refers to the Roman numeral 10.

Windows Vista:

Introduced in 2009, windows vista is developed by Microsoft. Having many features which were not there in windows XP, it was designed for PCs, laptops etc but for being highly resource intensive, was soon rejected by the users. Still its not a total failure as it gave way to today’s windows 7.

Fedora:

Having its bases on Linux, fedora is developed by Red Hat. Its versions Fedora core 9 and 10 has made the computers and programming easy for every one. These are also open source OS. It has everything to make the user a friend of it.

Mac OS X Leopard:

Released in 2007, Mac OS X Leopard is available in two versions; one for personal computers, good for personal use and other is a server version called as Mac OS X Server. It offers 300+ newer features than Mac OS X.

Xandros Linux:

It is a line of operating systems developed by the company Xandros, which was developed by Linux Global Partners. These are also open source softwares. Xandros Home Edition comes with Xandros Security suit, which protects the PC from spam, viruses and spy wares.

Amiga Operating System

Introduced by collaboration of Amiga Inc and Hyperion Entertainment, recently in 2010, Amiga provides the easiest ever reboot solutions. It boots and reboots within seconds, saving user’s time and efforts. It runs only on PowerPC computer systems.

Haiku OS:

The latest version of Haiku was launched in May 2010. It is also an open source operating system and is also compatible with BeOS. It gets its basics from C++. Most of the today’s important applications like Firefox run well on Haiku.

Kolibri OS:

Coded in assembly language, released in 2009, Kolibri aims to introduce the most compact codes for programming. In appearance it resembles a bit to our well-known Windows but reboots in a couple of seconds.

Windows Vista was a successful product besides it faced many criticisms. However it was not that fast and user friendly as the new Windows 7 has been made. Windows 7 is made better in many respects in terms of performance, user experience and speed.

Operating system is a stratum of software which is responsible for taking care of technical characteristics of personal computer and its operations. It is helpful in providing protection against the users from approaching the low level machine languages. There is no specific world wide accepted definition for an operating system. . The Important Elements of an Operating System

Usually the operating system has some crucial key elements. The first element is known as the technical level or layer which is responsible for carrying the basic operations of the hardware. The second important element of the operating system is referred to as the file system. File system is responsible for logically arranging the files. The third element of the operating system is directly linked to the users operations and is known as command language. Command language guides the users to run different programs and manipulate their tasks. These are the key elements of operating systems however an operating system is also comprised of compilers, text editors and debuggers. This helps in smooth functioning of the system and also ensures the security of the system. VMS and hline MTS are multi user, multi task but single processor operating system. NT is the only processor which is able to serve single and multi users and are able to perform multiple tasks while they work on many processors. Macintosh system seven is a single user but quasi tasking OS which is capable to operate on a single processor. Working of the Operating System

If we take the computer system as whole then operating system is residing at the third layer of the system. Hardware is at the first layer, second layer contains the drivers, the third layer possesses OS and the fourth layer is the application layer. OS creates a link between the user and the softwares. Whenever, a user runs a set of instructions or a program to send a message to any hardware device. This message is sent to the operating system first and the OS runs the programs by making use of its drivers. Drivers facilitate the working of the system. Without drivers it is necessary for the programs to communicate directly with the intended hardware devices. Web Browser Grand Prix 4: Firefox 4 Goes Final

It's official! After four months of delays, twelve betas, and two RCs, Firefox 4 has gone final. But after all that, does this fox still have teeth? Can Internet Explorer 9 retain the WBGP title, or will it become the shortest-lived champion to date?


Last week, Microsoft Internet Explorer 9 became the Web Browser Grand Prix (WBGP) champion, just one day before Firefox 4 was released (you can download it right here). Although testing began the day of Internet Explorer 9's launch (we have that one available for download, too), the timing of our publication ended up being quite unfortunate. Scores of angry Firefox 4 fans stormed the comments and forums, torches and pitchforks in hand. They demanded an update with Firefox 4 RC2 included. They offered up a leaked final copy for testing. They demanded the story be taken down and IE9 stripped of its title. They accused us of blasphemy and called for my head.

Since our update to the WBGP3's first page was no use against the angry horde, let's clear this up right here on the front page of WBGP4.

We only test final products in the WBGP. If we let one pre-release build in, we have to let them all in. Fair for one is fair for all, right? When that happens, things get weird. No one wants to be measured purely for speed against Chrome Canary. It may shut itself down whenever it pleases, but damn it's fast. Or remember when the IE9 platform preview came out? No discernible method to interact with the application in any way, but hey, look at those benchmark scores! Officially-distributed stable code is our line in the sand. We're calling a winner at the end of this, and you just don't compare development builds to final products in that setting. You just don't.

That phony final copy of Firefox 4 was a perfect example of why. We ran it through the WBGP3 suite on the WBGP3 test installation before wiping the drive for WBGP4. We hoped that wasn't indicative of the final build, and Mozilla confirmed it wasn't.

Now that Mozilla also has a major refresh on the scene, it's already time for Microsoft to defend its title. But this article isn't simply a rematch, a do-over of WBGP3. No, this truly is WBGP4. And that means an update to our suite of benchmarks. New contender Firefox 4 brings with it the ability to crack open two brand new areas of testing: HTML5 hardware acceleration and WebGL. Before Firefox 4 went final, only Google Chrome could take advantage of WebGL, making comparison impossible. Likewise, WBGP3 champion Microsoft Internet Explorer 9 was the only stable Web browser to utilize HTML5 hardware acceleration. Today, Mozilla gets to take them both on.

Since the publication of WBGP3, Chrome 10 has also received some minor updates (we're using 10.0.648.204 for our testing here), and we've introduced a couple of other new benchmarks as well. But before we get to the testing, let's take a look at what Mozilla has been up to these past few months with a featurette on Firefox 4.

Difference Between Hardware and Software

Symbian OS

Symbian OS is an open source operating system for mobile phones primarily used on Nokia advanced or data enabled smart phones. Symbian OS runs exclusively on ARM processors and has evolved from Psion's EPOC which was developed as a rudimentary operating system for early electronic organizers. The Psion EPOC OS was refered to EPOC16 beginning in the late 1990's to help distinguish it from the newer 32bit Operating system EPOC32, which eventually became Symbian OS. Psion software created a joint venture with several mobile hardware manufacturers, Ericsson®, Motorola®, and Nokia® called Symbian and eventually took on the name Symbian Software, renaming EPOC32 Symbian OS.

The key advantage of EPOC32 over its 16bit predecessor is the ability to multi-task, perform multiple functions at once. In newer devices, this might mean being able to surf the web using the phone and not lose your content when answering an incoming call.
Many third party manufacturers were able to license the 32bit EPOC OS for their organizers and other mobile data devices. Since the late 1990's,Symbian OS has become one of the most popular mobile device operating systems available.

Several device manufacturers from Nokia® to Sony/Ericsson® have committed to the new and open project that Symbian has announced for its mobile phone operating system, Symbian OS. Wireless carriers such as AT&T® and T-Mobile® have also pledged support for the project.

Symbian OS has also adapted to include soft features such as global positioning software (GPS) which will become as common as a camera in the very near future. Service providers and other companies could then publish location based services that interact with the GPS found in a mobile phone, appearing on the display once the user is near an application.

In recent years, Microsoft® and Palm® have been the most discussed providers of operating system software for mobile phones, but Symbian has been powering phones for quite some time. The company announced in 2008 that the operating system would become open source very soon, allowing other vendors and even users themselves to add to the already widely established Symbian OS. The support for the much established mobile platform is far and wide, though much of the press lately has centered around Apple's iPhone® and other offerings, including the Google Android™ OS for mobile devices.
